EarthWorks Enterprises Farm
Organic Farm in El Monte
We provide job, life skills, nutrition and organic farming training, employment, and leadership development for youth at our organic urban farm at the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte, California. At our 4 acre EarthWorks Community Farm, program youth are employed to learn how to grow high quality, fresh organic vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers and provide customer service at the produce stand. The ultimate goal is to transform our youth into leaders and productive community members. We increase the health of the community through the sales and donations of our organic produce and through nutrition education. By being a community urban farm and orchard, we bring the community together to support health and well-being of people and the planet.

The Community Alliance with Family Farmers is building a movement of rural and urban people to foster family-scale agriculture that cares for the land, sustains local economies and promotes social justice.
EarthWorks is a non-profit organization working to create a healthier and more sustainable environment in Greater Boston. Our Urban Orchards Program is a greening and food production program that operates with local groups to plant, maintain, and harvest fruit- and nut-bearing trees, shrubs, and vines on public land. In the Urban Wilds Program we partner with the Boston Parks Department to ecologically restore city-owned natural areas. Our Outdoor Classrooms Program provides environmental education to Boston public school children by using schoolyard orchards as learning space. The Setback Tree Project is a one-year pilot program focused in Jamaica Plain, MA working to plant trees on private property near public right of ways for communal benefits, such as shade and street beautification. Our calendar offers opportunities to experience the natural world in Boston through nature walks, volunteer learn-and-serve work sessions, and bike rides.
Urban Orchards is a greening and food production program that works with local groups to plant, maintain, and harvest fruit- and nut-bearing trees, shrubs, and vines on urban land. Cities usually contain neglected areas and lack green space. By involving local communities in reviving and maintaining open spaces, the Urban Orchards Program connects individuals with one another and with the nature in their neighborhood. The program brings people together to work towards more ecologically sustainable neighborhoods, to protect the environment, and to share the fruit – all of which build stronger communities.
“Public Fruit” is the concept behind the Fallen Fruit, an activist art project which started as a mapping of all the public fruit in our neighborhood. We ask all of you to contribute your maps so they expand to cover the United States and then the world. We encourage everyone to harvest, plant and sample public fruit, which is what we call all fruit on or overhanging public spaces such as sidewalks, streets or parking lots.
We believe fruit is a resource that should be commonly shared, like shells from the beach or mushrooms from the forest. Fallen Fruit has moved from mapping to planning fruit parks in under-utilized areas. Our goal is to get people thinking about the life and vitality of our neighborhoods and to consider how we can change the dynamic of our cities and common values.
